Prelude from Ivan

Here is a nice prelude from the song "Appadi Paakarthuna" from "Ivan". I like this magical prelude by Ilaiyaraaja a lot. It starts with a piano in Bb minor and after that it changes to a different scale (which I am yet to decipher) and then again does a scale shift to D major and the solo violin accompanies at this point. The song then continues in the D major scale, which is Raag Shankarabharanam.

Not many would have heard this prelude, since this particular portion is not shown on TV nor played on Radio. Let me know your views on this piece.

  1. nice score.
starts with piano, slowly the sine synth blends, pizzicato adds and finally the pads along with strings join to make this arrangement into such a nice masterpiece.

  3. Hi Ramesh - In an interview, Parthiban told that Karthik Raja did the orchestration for Ivan songs and also Karthik raja did the background score for the movie.... and that is why he chose him for scoring in Kudaikkul Mazhai

  7. Ramesh, this prelude is part of the song and is included in the CD. Basically the song begins with this prelude. Why do you feel many might not have heard it? Do you mean those who don't listen to it on tape/CD?

BTW, I think you are doing a neat job here...keep up the good work.

  8. Hi Shankar,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes I was referring to those who had just watched the song on television. The prelude portion of this song is not generally played on TV.

    Regards
    Ramesh
